Our 3D studio is looking for a

3D CAD Modeling Specialist / Drafter

100 %, f/m/d, immediate start or upon agreement

The Kunstgiesserei St.Gallen is looking for a full-time 3D CAD modeling specialist /drafter to join its existing 3D studio.

Ideally, you have a professional background in industrial design, product design, crafts, modelmaking, design engineering, mechanical engineering, prototyping, scenography or props fabrication.

We are looking for a professional with a trained esthetic eye for composition. A proactive approach to innovative solutions and an open, teamwork-oriented attitude are essential.

An interest in sculpture and fine arts is welcome, as is a great enthusiasm to understand and learn about complex fabrication and casting processes.

Along with the 3D team, project managers in St.Gallen and Shanghai, and the specialized craftspeople from our workshops, you will work on the development of artworks.

Communication and close, dynamic exchange with artists and their studios is an important aspect of your job.

Your tasks will include drafting and developing technical solutions for the production of artworks and sculptures, e.g. design of structural elements and interior constructions, 2D drafting as well as schematic 3D and other visualizations.

Professional communication skills, both spoken and written, as well as using correct technical vocabulary when communicating with suppliers and clients, are crucial.

Fluent expression in English, both spoken and written, is expected. Fair command of German is expected.

Core Skills

• Sound knowledge (minimum 5 years of professional experience) of CAD modeling and drafting (ideally with Rhino)
• Substantial and varied practical experience in design and execution planning with metal and wood, and possibly casting and molding processes, GRP laminating (or similar)
• Good understanding of production processes (traditional metalwork and woodwork, 3D printing and CNC milling)
• Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator: basic skills

Working with us, you will learn specific 3D scanning and data processing skills that are essential for executing your tasks at Kunstgiesserei.

Complementary Skills

The following are not mandatory requirements, but will be positively evaluated:

• Background knowledge of CG visualization and rendering
• Experience with 3D scanning technologies and mesh data cleaning and processing (ideally with Pixologic Zbrush)
• Manual photography skills

The Kunstgiesserei St.Gallen is a large art production workshop, which produces and restores sculptural artworks on behalf of artists, galleries and museums.

The Kunstgiesserei is one of the most renowned art production facilities in the world and has an international network, including a subsidiary in Shanghai.

In our workshops in the Sittertal valley, roughly 90 employees from all over the world and from various professional backgrounds work with a diverse infrastructure, such as the metal foundry, wax workshop, metal workshop, glass and ceramics workshop, carpentry, screen printing equipment, as well as casting facilities for concrete and other non-metallic materials.

 We work with both special machines for the traditional handicrafts and digital 3D technologies ( e.g. 3D Scanning,  in-house 3D Printing and CNC Milling facilities)
