About the role:

PRODUCT

  • Passion & experience researching & identifying new & commercial trends & opportunities in Cabinet furniture which could include living, dining, bedroom including wood, veneers & foils selection, paint finishes, shape direction & hardware
  • Excellent presentation standards for mood boards that are clear and have creative flair
  • Supporting the creation of cohesive and coordinated design looks across Next Home
  • Passion for interiors
  • Designing for all Next home customer styles
  • Excellent CAD skills, Adobe and 3d Packages
  • Create clear findings and actions from inspirational shopping
  • Excellent hit rate - design to sample & design to sales
  • Updating core & volume lines
  • Work within the trading needs of the business, identify & designing into new opportunities from trade across the business

CUSTOMER

  • Extensive market and aspirational brand knowledge
  • Wide understanding of customer styles, using the guidelines to challenge & stretch product opportunities

TECHNICAL

  • Create detailed specification documents for accurate briefing to manufacturers
  • Excellent organisation and planning to deliver to deadlines and critical path
  • Designing products with relevance to price architecture, margins and selling prices
  • Engineering products within technical limitations
  • In depth knowledge and experience designing KD & assembled furniture
  • Liaise with suppliers on design, product and development, ensuring that products match initial design specification.
  • Working knowledge of current cabinet furniture production processes in Far East & other related regions
  • Experience designing products across different substrates, wood, metal, marble, resin, glass and beyond
  • An understanding of how to design products that will look great in photography

COMMUNICATION/RELATIONSHIP BUILDING

  • Excellent presentation skills, presenting at Director and Manager level including large groups, flexing style and content where appropriate
  • Excellent communication skills, clear, concise and dynamic
  • Excellent influencing & negotiating skills
  • Excellent range building skills, challenging and balancing newness and commerciality
  • Networking across Home / business
  • Liaising with key buying, merchandising & technical teams to realise briefs

MANAGERIAL

  • Day to day management of an Assistant Designer, management also includes goal and objective setting, performance management, feedback and appraisals

About you:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience working in the industry
  • Qualified to degree or equivalent
  • Extensive gifting and stationary design experience preferably gained in a fast paced commercial environment.
  • Illustratration and drawing skills
  • Knowledge of type
  • Experience designing on different paper/card/canvas products
  • Considerable product development / travel experience
  • Passion, enthusiasm, curiosity, resilience & confidence
