The Opportunity


Job Purposes:

  • Oversight of Industrial Design work in APAC and China Studios.
  • Provides the leadership, direction, and strategic/tactical priorities for the Industrial Design in APAC/ China region.
  • Accountable for design activities within the region and provides the necessary vision and direction for the team.
  • Collaborates with regional Innovation and strategic functions and provides (dotted line) leadership and coordination in the
  • APAC business context (also ref. joint venture structures).
  • Collaborates with NA and EU Design Directors.


  • Develops and ensures departmental strategy & vision that supports corporate goals and enhances the product/service providing to its respective customers.
  • Clearly plans and establishes resource requirements in alignment with business need. Develops and deploys these resources to enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Regularly models behaviors consistent with LEM and Industrial Design values (Curiosity, Collaboration, Commitment, Creativity, and Confidence).
  • Leverages design thinking models to promote new approaches that push products, processes and services higher in the design continuum.
  • Provides a design perspective on company-wide management committees.
  • Develops new and innovative ways to showcase Industrial Design opportunities and achievements accomplished by their respective teams.
  • Manages strategic communications between internal departments that impacts the process and product deliverables from a macro perspective.
  • Promotes and maintains a strong servant leader orientation.
  • Develops and promotes departmental policies and processes that demonstrate expectations for departmental disciplines.
  • Align with and represent global CS Engineering teams in terms of local customer interface.


  • Bachelor’s degree or above, prefer major in Industrial Design or Engineering.
  • More than 10 years of experience in management role of automotive industry, experience in seating or interiors is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrates proven design leadership abilities within APAC and be familiar with product development/process development standards.
  • Capability to derive alternative methods to facilitate & drive change.
  • Able to persuade, influence and collaborate across the businesses and communicate effectively with senior management, customers and suppliers in a direct, open and trust-based manner.
  • True team player and builder and takes steps to build cohesive teams in culturally inclusive ways.
  • Strong experience in internal control and business process improvement.
  • Strong business acumen and a good understanding of critical business drivers.
  • Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated, disciplined, independent and mature personality.
  • Fluent in English, both in written and spoken, other regional languages (Chinese, Korean, Japanese) above communication skills are a plus.
