Industrial Design Lead at
Propelland

About the role 

As a Lead Industrial Designer you will work cross functionally with strategists, engineers and other designers to ensure that client needs are not only met, but exceeded, leading to long term relationships. Together you will understand the client’s needs, translate them into a compelling vision for the project, determine the best design tools to use, and execute on design deliverable’s. You are able to understand complex systems and how they impact people’s behavior. With the insights gained from research, you turn them into opportunities and concepts of new experiences, and visualize them through prototypes that showcase the value being added to people’s lives.

What you’ll do?  

• Lead industrial design projects, guide the design process and deliverables, track challenges and identify solutions, and ensure our work exceeds expectations.
• Help develop the creative, enjoyable, and transformational culture at propelland together with the founding team.
• Lead and manage the Industrial Design team, supporting recruitment and growth.
• Motivate other propellers to create the best results that will impact people through meaningful experiences.
• Develop strategically positioned concepts from design principles and constraints using visualization, CAD modeling, rendering, and prototyping.
• Collaborate with engineers to fabricate aesthetic and functional prototypes that can be brought to life through manufacturing.
• Collaborate with strategists to synthesize and communicate research findings, identify areas of opportunity, and conceptualize ideas.
• Craft compelling user experiences, and visualize them through user journeys, service blueprints, and presentations that communicate design details and rationale.
• Maintain positive relationships with our existing clients and identify opportunities to up-sell or cross-sell new projects.
• Participate in the proposal creation process – identify creative solutions to meet our clients needs and define the methodology and strategies to create those solutions together with studio operations lead.
• Build up the industrial design discipline team (full-time + vendors/freelancers), help them grow, and lead recruiting new propellers depending on project needs.
• Master communication skills, and the ability to deliver compelling design rationales in both client and internal contexts.

Does this sound like you? 

• Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a design related field.
• 5-7 years experience in industrial design. 2 or more years at a design consultancy is preferred.
• A proven record of leading design teams, managing projects, and interfacing directly with clients.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Strong visualization, CAD modeling, prototyping and fabrication capabilities.
• Experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) and knowledge of common manufacturing methods.
• The desire to continue learning new skills, improve your craft, and grow as a designer and leader within our team.
• Obsessed with staying ahead of industry by implementing best practices for the ID discipline in the studio and sharing with our global team.
• Motivated by feedback, and by the opportunity to improve in your role, in the work, and in how you work together as a team.
• The hacking mind-set to constantly question the status quo and propose better ways of working.
