Industrial Designer at
Santa Cruz Bicycles

As an Industrial Designer at Santa Cruz Bicycles, you will develop commercially viable designs that maintain our brand’s design language and supports our leading position in the industry. You will also be responsible for developing and evolving a premium aesthetic for future relevancy and competitiveness of our frames and components.

 

Overall Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):

• Develop new, best in class bicycle frames, components and accessories at the initial concept level through to production
• Develop and communicate practical design concepts in a timely manner
• Consider materials and manufacturing methods to make aesthetic and mechanical improvements to our products
• Look outside the bicycle industry for ways to evolve and progress our existing design language
• Implement feedback from Engineers and Product Managers
• Work with Engineers to ensure that design intent is properly implemented in the final product release
• Look for new ways to improve the efficiency with which concept work is generated
• Rapidly generate 3D concept models through use of Creo, Sub Division modeling, clay, etc.
• Design fully engineered parts and create production ready drawings using Creo as required
• Conduct market research to inform the design process
• Document the design process via well-organized slide decks for inter-departmental reference

 

Competencies and Requirements:

• BFA or BS in Industrial Design, Product Design, or Transportation Design
• A minimum of five years working as an Industrial Designer
• A minimum of three years working with overseas vendors
• An intimate knowledge of part design for a range of manufacturing processes, specifically: injection molding, extrusion, machining, forging, hydroforming and high-performance composite structures
• Advanced 3D surfacing skills, Creo preferred
• Experience with Sub Division or other iterative surface modeling programs is preferred (Gravity Sketch, Rhino, etc.)
• Advanced digital 2D sketching skills (Photoshop, Sketchbook Pro or similar)
• Proficiency in Keyshot, Adobe Creative Suite
• Design experience in the sporting goods industry, experience in the cycling industry is preferred
• Ability to work with other members of the design team and use feedback in a constructive way
• Travel up to four weeks per year

 

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend and explain documents in English. Effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, in English.
