What You'll Do
In response to our growing business needs, we are excited to announce the creation of a new position: Industrial Designer, Team Sports. This position will play an integral role in identifying and implementing cutting edge design/technologies into Wilson’s performance and Connected Products that can support the needs of athletes and their evolving personal preferences. As the Industrial Designer, you will work closely with members of the Team Sport Advanced Innovation and Product Development Teams to develop a holistic design solution. This is a hands-on position with a heavy emphasis on design work for the performance Football and Basketball categories. Additional work in Soccer and Volleyball, plus cross functional collaboration with the Baseball, Racquet, and Golf Teams may also be required. We are looking for a creative and innovative visionary to help drive the overall Team Sport design language for products that inspire passion with our target end users.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Intense interest in and awareness of everything related to Football and Basketball performance, including but not limited too off field/court life style, shoe and digital trends.
Research, identify, initiate or interpret these trends into new product concepts that satisfy end user requirements.
Foster and create the visual design language across all Wilson Team Sports hardgoods and Connected Products.
Develop tech packs and communicate product concepts within the company and to US and Asia-based colleagues by:
Developing 2D and 3D rendered graphics
Creating logos, color ways, finishes and cosmetic elements to adorn the product
Research and create inspiration / trend / color boards for future product line development.
Research, analyze and monitor competitive products, industry trends and external consumer product trends to capitalize on market opportunities
Ensure execution of product design is aligned to consumer visual identity and fits within our business objectives for the product range
Build critical relationships and leverage expertise and capabilities from inside and outside Wilson to deliver results and create value.
Build relationships with external entities (agencies, suppliers, free-lancers, etc.) to facilitate influx of new creative and to help with overflow design needs.
What We're Looking For
This role requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design or a related field and a minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial design or product/creative design of consumer products or a related area, preferably in sporting goods or consumer goods. Ideal candidates will have experience working across a variety of mediums in the design and production of branding, product, and packaging. Formal Graphic Design training and experience managing projects for recognizable brands and collaborating with teams through delivery is strongly preferred.
Other qualifications include:
Demonstrated passion for Team Sports.
Working knowledge of materials, fabrics, and cut/sew operations a plus.
Proficient with 3D CAD (SolidWorks) software including advanced surfacing techniques.
Proficient in 3D rendering software (KeyShot or comparable) for high end finished product imagery.
Strong hand sketching and rendering skills with ability to create designs quickly, working in and out of software, preferred.
Demonstrated ability to pitch design ideas, with confidence, to a large group
Digital UX/UI experience a plus.
Experienced in producing spec packs and technical drawings.
Exceptional 2D Skills: hand and computer sketching.
Ability to synthesize design-inspired consumer insights through connections with athletes.
Strong multi-tasking capabilities and the ability to work effectively in a high-paced environment that embraces change and value creation.
Strong project management and analytic skills.
Hands on approach and entrepreneurial attitude
Highly proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, or similar design software.
Knowledge and experience working with Microsoft Office suite.
Ability to travel 20% domestically and internationally.
