Lead User Interface (UI) Designer at

This role is based at our Phoenix, AZ HQ, and would require relocation to the Phoenix area.

As Lead User Interface Designer, you are a highly motivated, creative, and versatile individual with experience designing polished interfaces.

You will apply your experience with interface design and in-vehicle user experience to ensure Nikola vehicles are safe and easy to operate.

You will collaborate with User Experience (UX) designers, technologists, and business stakeholders to craft meaningful experiences for our customers through thoughtful visual design.

As a lead, you will represent UX department within in the company and be an advocate for UX principles and values along with other members of the UX team.

A thorough understanding of the right balance between, color, theme, feature, technology, hardware, interior design, serving our brand’s purpose, business missions, and customer needs is critical for this role.

What you’ll be creating:

Weave pleasant iconography, typography, color, space, and texture together to help our users successfully navigate our interfaces

Contribute to, or own, the concept and production of style guides to establish and drive a cohesive product vision across platforms

Support in evolving product features from wireframe and user flows to high fidelity designs and prototypes

Work closely and iteratively with software developers to ensure design accuracy and consistency throughout the creative process

Translate Nikola brand promise, strategy, and design language into world class visuals

Apply innovative and progressive problem-solving skills within the shared visual design language and aesthetic of the Nikola brand

Display excellent time management skills and lead design team to complete work by, or before, deadline.

What you “must” already bring to the table:

• 5+ years of experience in interactive, UI, visual, or product design
• Experience with automotive specific HMI design, instrument cluster, head unit, and other in-vehicle experience design
• You display an exceptional sense of visual design, a passion for beautiful user interfaces
• You have a real passion for flawless, delightful, and differentiated user experiences, as well as invention and human computer interaction
• Your portfolio demonstrates confident interactive visual design skills, motion is a bonus
• You display a solid knowledge of traditional design tools such as Sketch, XD, Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, and are also willing to learn new tools
• Knowledge of Unreal Engine is a plus
• You embrace teamwork and partnership, are a receptive listener, and always take an open-minded and collaborative approach to design
• You can visually communicate your ideas via sketches and storyboards, motion sketches, etc. Working from low-fi to high-fi
• Passionate about design and technology trends
• Experience with visual storytelling, illustration and graphic design across different media types, beyond interactive software products
• Experience presenting work, approaches, design states and full execution designs to stakeholders, executive management, and investors

Candidates must have current U.S. work authorization or be TN eligible from Mexico or Canada.
