ABOUT THIS ROLE
As the Senior CMF Designer, you will be responsible to keep the Design team informed of market, fashion, and global trends. Filtering and translating ideas onto future NPD and Limited-edition collections to create engaging products & accessories in line with ghd’s premium brand values. Based in the London Design studio you will work closely with Marketing and Studio teams to ensure coherent story telling in trends led promotions and NPD launches.
JOB ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
For each Limited-Edition trend research is vital to create concepts and routes that are unique to ghd, and have covetable appeal to consumers
Keep on top of current and future trends to inform design choices for product and accessories (bags, heat mats, gifting)
Filter global trends database (WGSN / Futurelabs etc) and industry sector trends in line with ghd’s brand guidelines to help steer the long-term strategic product roadmap
Colour Materials and Finishes (CMF):
Manage library of CMF inspiration (colours, swatch samples etc)
Investigate new and brand aligned techniques and processes to deliver solutions for new finishes and materials across product, packaging, promotions
Be an advocate for sustainable choices in our product portfolio
Concept generation / development / review:
Compile mood boards from project briefs to guide design concepts
Visualise CMF choices on product / accessories utilising 2D / 3D software
Work with modelmakers to create visual mock-ups of design intent
Create accessory (bags, heat mats, gifting) concepts and supporting specification documents to brief external suppliers
Attend weekly project meetings and present concepts to wider team / senior management
Understand technical constraints when creating designs – Work with suppliers to understand scope of decorative finishes / limitations and relative costs
Work alongside ghd Hong Kong team, PMO and suppliers, to communicate design intent (provide CMF specification documents) and manage cost and time constraints
Review limit samples to agree acceptable colour variance and quality from multiple suppliers
Work with studio team to ensure campaign imagery and product photography is consistent with original trend and product execution
Degree educated in Industrial Design, Textiles, Fashion or similar
Experience working on CMF for manufacture – Design consultancy or consumer products company
Experience of dealing with technical specifications for suppliers
Ability to interpret briefs and ideas
Advanced 2D CAD skills – Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
3D CAD – Keyshot rendering
Excellent communication and presentation skills both verbally and visually
Ability to work autonomously, plan and organise own workload and to work within timescales / tight deadlines
Excellent attention to detail
Confident in using own initiative, a problem solver
