We Huemen by Harman are looking for a Sr. Parametric Designer in Novi, Detroit, USA.
In the role of Sr. Parametric Designer, you will be responsible for developing iconic generative algorithms. You will be generating hole patterns and 3D structures to apply them on A-surface data. You will be creating, developing, and managing a strategy for patterns and surfaces for multiple Harman premium brands, including Harman/Kardon, JBL, Infinity, Lexicon, Mark Levinson, Revel, AKG, and licensed business such as Bowers & Wilkins, CANTON, CLASSE, Bang & Olufsen and B&O PLAY.
The Parametric designer position will be reporting to:
Design Manager - Car Audio, Philipp Siebourg
Develop iconic generative algorithms, hole patterns, and 3D geometries for each Harman brand
Develop custom components and Plug-ins for Grasshopper for Rhino with Python or C#, to automate the design processes and to be used from designers internally.
Modify provided surface data to apply the generated patterns
Develop and nourish Harman’s credible audio brands
Manage & lead communication with the design team and stakeholders across various locations.
Understand, improve and evolve existing brand design guidelines
Develop future brand design language strategy
Implement design language for each brand and position as 'best in class' in the automotive audio business. Upon request and approval, the Industrial Designer will develop the design language for other parts of the SBU Audio group
Understand and design for manufacturability and cost targets.
Develop 3D surface files to transfer to mechanical engineering.
Work concurrently with Engineering to streamline the developmental process
Establish and maintain productive working relationships with other discipline team members and customer or supplier contacts
Develop methods and processes to improve efficiency and competence levels
Experience required: 5+ years of design and with Parametric Modeling experience
Experience with material cost and finishes, manufacturing processes, tooling methods, assembly methods
Good knowledge about edge technologies as CNC Milling, Lasering, 3D Printing, etc. is a plus.
Expert skills in Rhino and Grasshopper (including Add-ons), familiarity with Rhino and Grasshopper Plug-ins.
Excellent programming skills (Able to develop custom components for Grasshopper with Python or C#)
Very good technical understanding. Very good understanding about 3D geometry and proportions.
Capable to adapt & create brand related design languages in correspondence to the target car interiors
Result-orientated and a motivated team player
Ability to communicate creative ideas at a high quality level
Advanced knowledge of English, other languages are a plus
Ability to work under pressure
Willingness to travel 25% of the time
