We are looking for a highly motivated, user focused Senior Industrial Designer with the ability to collaborate on all phases of the design process. At Vivint we value compelling visual and verbal storytelling, extreme attention to detail, a hands-on approach to problem solving, and the ability to give and receive constructive feedback. You will be required to work both individually and on a team. Reporting to the Industrial Design Manager.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work closely with our research, design, product and engineering teams (local and overseas) to build product experience offerings for current and new customers.
  • Help synthesize qualitative and quantitative data into actionable insights.
  • Conceptualize, visualize and prototype your solutions to product interaction and packaging.
  • Create detailed documentation of your solutions for internal and external communication of design intent.
  • Proactively present your work and design rationale to multi-disciplinary teams and at C-level reviews.
  • Local and international travel for research and development activities.
  • Design within and continue to develop the Vivint Visual Brand Language.
  • Work with a team of seasoned designers across ID and UX to contribute on new growth initiatives for the business.

Skills And Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in Industrial Design with launched products in consumer electronics and related categories preferred.
  • Strong sketching skills are essential! Traditional and digital.
  • Ability to identify customer needs through Design Thinking research methodologies.
  • Proven ability at solving complex design and experience problems with simple and elegant solutions.
  • The ability to storyboard experience solutions for internal and external facing stakeholders.
  • Proficient in 2D and 3D CAD solid and surface modeling. Adobe Suite, Procreate, SolidWorks, Fusion 360.
  • Proficient in creating high quality Keyshot renderings and animations for internal stakeholder presentations and external sales/marketing material.
  • Working knowledge of various materials and their associated manufacturing processes.
  • Experience working with and considering the crossover of physical and digital experiences.

  • This position will be on site in our Lehi, Utah Innovation center where we take the necessary precautions to stay safe during the pandemic.

Working Conditions

  • This job operates in both a professional office environment and a laboratory/workshop environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones, as well as 3D printers, desktop milling machines, basic woodworking power tools, a paint booth, and other various model making tools.
