The Opportunity

Safran Seats specializes in designing and producing aircraft seats of all classes which includes pilot
and crew, economy and premium-economy, business and first class. Airlines all around the world are
our direct customer but passengers are the end-users of our products.
The CMF Designer creates the material harmony of our seats playing with colors and finishes while
taking accounting for aviation constraints. CMF designers work hand in hand with the industrial
designers at the very early stages of the product definition but also during tradeshow and sales bid.
As part of the Advanced Concept Team, the CMF designer reports to the Advanced Concept Manager
Tasks

  • Trends watch:
    - Being on top of the latest trim and finish trends in commercial aviation and other
    industries (automobile, mobility, furniture, hospitality).
    - Participates to diverse tradeshow, extracts majors trends and articulate forecasts.
    - Designs and executes trend, mood and inspiration boards.
  • CMF design
    - Works alongside industrial designers to apply the right materials to each part of the seat,
    creating functional and esthetic designs.
    - Create the CMF application documents for seat show and sales presentations.
    - Follows the application of the defined guidelines on prototypes and product lines.
    - Works closely with engineering and manufacturing validate the feasibility of design
    intent.
  • Upholstery design
    - Creates new upholstery designs for headrest, backrest and seat pan playing with color,
    material, seam lines, stitch lines and patterns.
    - Realistically models seat cushions representative of the designed trim.
  • Renderings
    - Generates high quality renderings in order to test and validate the CMF design choices
    made.
  • Material library
    - Develops and maintains the sample material library
    - Develops and deploys the digital material library
    - Builds and maintains supplier relationship to stay on top of the latest materials which will
    feed the sample material library.

Experience

  • Education : Master degree in industrial design or other relevant education
  • Experience: 3+ years as CMF designer (preferred)

Skills

  • Fluent in French
  • Proficient in English
  • Proficient in 3D rendering (Blender preferred)
  • Adobe Creative Suite proficiency (Photoshop/Illustrator)
  • Skilled user of MS Office software (PowerPoint)
  • High communication skills
  • Feel for colors, materials and finishes
  • Basic understanding of the material properties
  • Interest and curiosity in aviation and the transportation industry

Job specifics

  • The Position located in Issoudun, France.
  • Driver license recommended
  •  2 days of home office per week
