Cortex Design Inc. - Solidworks Product Design Ninja at Cortex Design Inc.

The Opportunity

Located in the heart of Toronto’s design district (Queen St. West, West, West) Cortex specializes in technically complex consumer and medical products. We’re looking for a mechanically-oriented designer to fill an immediate position we have available.
Our Culture
At Cortex, we visualize human experiences, design products that support them, and manufacture the solution. And now we’re looking to add to our team.
We are always looking for projects that involve radically new technologies, pushing the limits of what products can do for the people who use them. Some of our recent projects include the Bublcam spherical imaging camera, the Matter and Form 3D Scanner, the Voltera Circuit Board Printer, and we are 1 of 7 finalists in the $10M Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE competition  to build the world’s first functioning medical Tricorder (of Star Trek fame).
We have beginning of week goal-setting meetings, bourbon-o’clock Friday reviews, and daily huddles in the afternoon to keep us all connected. Most of the team goes out for lunch together on Fridays. This office is in Parkdale, surrounded by interesting restaurant choices and easily accessible by TTC and GO Transit. Most of us walk or bike to work from downtown.
What are YOU like?
You have experience in all facets of product design, from initial ideation, scoping and concept generation to prototype design and creation, mechanical detailing, electronic integration, and manufacturing.  You get off on a perfectly resolved CAD model with clean dependencies, no build errors, minimum number of parametric features to accomplish design intent, and maximum portability across platforms and workstations. Being able to play well with others is essential; you should have the skills to be an ego-freak, but keep that to yourself when you come in the door. You derive maximum satisfaction by working with our other designers and partners to achieve product Bliss. The Quan.
If this doesn’t sound like you, you’re probably not the right person. Still interested? Read on.
Essential Functions:
* 2-5 years professional product design experience
* Exceptional Solidworks skills including surfacing, PCB assemblies, injection-molded plastics
* Portfolio of work on consumer electronic devices (more junior applicants should show stellar work in their portfolio that indicates a strong capability to learn fast)
* On the job knowledge of manufacturing processes like injection molding, die-casting, CNC milling, *PCB manufacturing, RIM
* Prototyping methodology including subtractive and additive processes (RP, CNC, silicone mold)
* Ability to create production ready CAD and manufacturing drawings quickly
* Prototyping and design verification
*Nice to have:*
* Experience creating formal quotes and Product Requirements Documents
* Knowledge of a conceptual modeler package like Alias, Modo, Form-Z
* medical product design experience
* knowledge of quality & safety standards and systems; ISO13485, ISO9001, UL, CSA, FCC, CE
* Project Management (we use Wrike and Quickbooks, and document everything)
If your brain is still hungry after reading that menu, let us know! We appreciate a nicely worded cover letter that indicates you “get” us. Don’t wax too poetic, but let us know we’re not just one of hundreds you’re blasting your resume to.
