We are seeking a full-time Industrial Designer 2 - Products for our headquarters in the greater Kansas City area.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Leads and takes ownership of a design and/or project for small display or exhibit projects and/or sub-projects and ensures accountability for meeting deadlines for relevant design deliverables throughout the process
Collaborates and contributes value in design reviews and communicates to teams in engineering and product managers to produce superior solutions
Works with mechanical engineering on material selection, textures and surface finishes
Communicates a design through clean and detailed documentation without errors and develops free hand sketches to communicate design concepts and details
Estimates level of effort, evaluates new options of similar technology, offers suggestions to improve processes, and provides comments on some electrical design aspects
Provides feedback on design concepts/skills to help improve display design solutions
Presents and defends design concepts/deliverables in Industrial design and segment team meetings regarding exhibit/display design concepts and construction details
Leverages understanding of plastic injection molding process and other production methods to ensure design solutions are manufacturable
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or related field AND a minimum of 3 years relevant experience OR a minimum of 3 years work experience as an Industrial Designer at Garmin
Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency using design tools such as SolidWorks, Keyshot, CorelDRAW Graphics Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and Sketchbook Pro
Demonstrated solid understanding and proficiency using design standards and procedures
OTHER ATTRIBUTES PER AREA OF SPECIALIZATION:
Automotive OEM Designer:
Automotive and/or related vehicle design experience (school projects are acceptable, portfolio examples are required)
Environmental, display, and tradeshow design experience (school projects are acceptable, portfolio examples are required)
Demonstrated critical thinking and advanced problem solving skills (portfolio and problem solving examples required)
Research minded (a desire to better understand what motivates customers, as well as how people use technology)
