Industrial Designer at
Studio17 Design

The Opportunity

Accelerate your industrial design career at Studio17

We are offering a talented industrial/product designer the chance to accelerate their design career by working under the direct guidance of Studio17’s Creative Directors. You will gain valuable experience across a variety of different design briefs, from early product conception, to manufacture and marketing direction. You will hone your skills as a well-rounded problem solver, strategic thinker, and develop market-defining products that consumers will love.

About Studio17

Studio17 is an award-winning product design consultancy founded by David Evans and Ashley May in 2010. From our Cambridge studio, we have forged a reputation for effortlessly executed, user-centred product innovation.

Our strategic, pragmatic approach to innovation has seen us deliver meaningfully better product experiences, emotive aesthetics, and responsible material use for our clients. From large international brands, to disruptive, tenacious start-ups, our proven formula has built brand equity and market share, working with clients such as Joseph Joseph, Fiskars, Umbra, Philips AVENT, Node Audio, Hilo EV and many more. We can deliver a complete development program, from identifying key product opportunities, design development, prototyping, manufacturing design, to packaging, CGI and art direction.

The Opportunity

We’re recruiting a supremely talented industrial designer with a passion for meaningful, user-centric product innovation, and creating environmentally conscious products.

The successful candidate will be an influential part of our small design team, given the freedom to liaise directly with clients as part of your project management, formulate creative solutions to briefs, collaborate and learn from the team to develop chosen designs right the way through to manufacture.

Your design experience will have exposed you to a range of materials and production techniques, with a good understanding of plastic injection molding. Moreover, you will be sensitive to the commercial and environmental appropriateness of the materials and methods used.

As an instrumental part of the team, you’ll be motivated to work at pace, and on a variety of different projects which may be at different stages of development. You’ll be comfortable working as part of a team, or working autonomously, and reporting to the directors.

Fundamentally, you’ll be a positive, creative individual who is a problem solver with excellent communication skills. You’ll understand the value of strategic product innovation, and how to communicate that to the consumer through intelligent design.

The role is optionally hybrid, either full time in the Cambridge studio, or partly studio and part home based.
