Location: UK – Spennymoor, Flexible: 2 days onsite, 3 days remote

Purpose:

Join our UK Design Centre and be an integral part of our Global Industrial Design Team.

The Industrial Design Team is a key component of new product development for Stanley Black & Decker’s Tools and Outdoor business. You will gain a vast amount of experience whilst working on a broad variety of innovative, user focused products across several of our key brands. These include, DEWALT, BLACK AND DECKER, CRAFTSMAN and STANLEY FATMAX, and across product portfolios including Power Tools, Outdoor Products and Home Products.

As a member of the Industrial Design Team, you will work closely with talented and experienced Designers, Engineers and Program Managers. To provide end user insights, innovation, industrial design, final surfacing, digital visualization and prototyping support for our many global brands and their markets.

We are seeking a creative, enthusiastic, out-of-the-box thinker, who can visualize new design directions, work cross-functionally with adjacent global teams, and execute production-ready design solutions

The Job (responsibilities):

• Create compelling designs based upon ideation, research and product requirements
• Passion for design aesthetics with a strong understanding of design principles and a sense for brand building aesthetics.
• Ability to quickly conceptualize ideas, exceptional sketching and visualizing skills.
• Develop innovative product concepts that evolve our design language in collaboration with our in-house development teams.
• Motivated to generate new exciting ideas and is objective and responsive to development team feedback.
• Explore ergonomic solutions utilising our in-house rapid prototyping facilities to evaluate, enhance and further validate solutions.
• Ability to embrace design from the user’s perspective, creatively looking at ways to improve a solution, and how it better solves a user need.
• Experience in construction of colour portfolios with explorations in CMF would be an advantage.

The Person (requirements):

• BA/BSc degree level in Industrial/Product Design.
• Experience in the product design sector (internship experience included).
• Exceptional sketching and visualization skills (Experience using a Wacom a plus).
• 3D solid and surface modelling skills. (SolidWorks, ProE, with Catia being a major asset).
• Proficiency with common design tools (Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchbook Pro, KeyShot).
• Basic understanding of manufacturing processes.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills and be able to convey information both verbally and via email to a global audience
• Ability to work as part of a close team, alongside colleagues in UK, USA, and our Global R&D sites across different disciplines.
• Excellent creative problem solving skills.
• Strong project and time management skills.
• Capable of multi-tasking and managing multiple priorities.
