Lead Industrial Designer – Building-Integrated Photovoltaics at
Saint-Gobain

The Opportunity

Under the direction of the group leader, the lead designer will work closely collaborate with a global team (North America, Europe, Asia) in the research, conceptualizing, prototyping (rapid and traditional), visualization, and fabrication of new ways to bring energize the surfaces of buildings.

  • Comfortable with transitions from one task to another as a method to develop a comprehensive design solution
  • Manages and documents projects and tasks effectively with supervision
  • Presents data internally and contributes to external publications when appropriate
  • Seeks out others to enhance and streamline development and decision making
  • Fabricates or coordinates fabrication for product prototyping efforts, including full scale demonstration prototypes
  • Comfortable with engaging with customers/contractors to gain feedback on design
  • Ability to interpret feedback from multiple stakeholders, report on findings and incorporate into design as applicable
  • Has a bias for action and agile methods, is unafraid to try things as a way of learning
  • Supports senior designers, engineers, and scientists in R&D team with product development
  • Evaluates decisions with a sustainable mindset

The position is located in Northboro, MA or Somerville, MA. Some travel would be required to job sites, factories, and to other company locations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Industrial Design or related discipline
  • 7+ years project leadership and product development experience
  • 3+ years leading other designers
  • Comfort with basic prototyping and fabrication equipment (3D Printers, CNC, Laser Cutter, hand and power tools)
  • Building industry exposure or strong interest
  • Experience preparing product installation manuals and/or product documentation
  • Strong CAD 3D modelling and 2D documentation skillset
  • Digital rendering and/or parametric/algorithmic modelling experience a plus
