LAYER, an experience driven design agency is seeking Mid-Level Industrial Designers to join their growing London studio. Mid level designers will need 3+ years of industry experience (after internships).

LAYER delivers experience-driven design for both the physical and digital worlds. Led by Benjamin Hubert and a growing creative team, LAYER is partnering with forward-thinking brands – including Nike, B&O, Samsung, Braun and Vitra – to create products, brands and services that will help define the way we live, work and communicate in the future, from smart devices and furniture systems, to the next generation of media and communication tools.

Our experience-driven approach to projects requires a diverse range of skills. This particular role should have keen knowledge and experience of strategic design research and also be well versed in industrial design skills. The successful applicant(s) will be proactive with a positive attitude and desire to become an integral team member.

Fluency in English is a prerequisite – other languages are beneficial.

This is not a remote role, and will be based full time in the London studio. Please only apply if you live in London or are willing and able to relocate.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Creative thought leader, always on the pulse of what is happening. You will enjoy sharing inspiring and thoughtful references to provide strategic direction to the leadership team.
• Strategic thinker and able to work across a number of different sectors.
• Strategic direction – gathering feedback from product testing, brand immersion and interpretation, forecasting market trends, competitor benchmarking, and observation of consumer behaviours to define relevant and inspiring insights to drive projects forward.
• Ability to own projects, client relationships, accounts, and fiscal responsibilities, while also driving business growth.
• Concept generation – good sketching and communication abilities.
• Design development 3D modelling and rendering.
• Storytelling – able to construct an inspiring narrative to present to clients, outlining user experience, uniqueness and tying insights to final designs.
• Design for production – growing into a technical thought leader in how products are made with working knowledge of production processes and materials.
• Efficient with time and prepared to join an extremely fast-paced environment.
• Willing to contribute to a culture of collaboration, share skills across teams and work well as part of a diverse and energetic team.
