The Opportunity

SAES Getters is a multinational advanced materials company that operates in some of the most advanced application sectors: from particle accelerators to compostable food packaging.

Design House is the design innovation lab of SAES, working on two main fronts: research and development in material science with design-driven methodologies and the design of industrial products for the B!POD brand, for which it is responsible for all design, logistics, budget, art direction and marketing activities.

Job Description: Senior Industrial Designer

The Senior Industrial Designer reports to the Design Manager. They define and drive new product designs for B!POD and SAES Design House Department, designing not only the products but also the related production and logistics chains. They work on all research and development projects for SAES across multiple fields, with the goal of growing the group in a transversal manner. They utilize the Group patent heritage and research streams in advanced materials to innovate and introduce new areas of research interest into the company.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Develop products with a user-centered design process and identify new opportunities. Present proposals to the Design Manager and Chief Innovation Officer, collecting feedback and ideas from research and marketing teams.
  • Autonomously drive projects or collaborate with other industrial design team members on production and R&D projects.
  • Work with the Design Manager on project planning for B!POD and all R&D activities.
  • Collaborate with the Design Manager on developing products from sketches to production, building not only the product but the entire production chain.
  • Work creatively and technically to solve problems related to technical and ergonomic requirements, developing a range of solutions that synthesize usability, utility, manufacturability, and desirability.
  • Work with teams early on to provide user-centered insights and design products, finding ways to improve products and processes.
  • Participate in user research, usability testing, and clinical research labs.
  • Passionately engage in cross-functional team meetings and other forums, proactively driving efforts forward.
  • Utilize a range of 2D and 3D tools and techniques to develop and communicate design opportunities.
  • Combine industrial design priorities with the priorities of our process partners.
  • Develop product design strategies and adaptive workflows based on project objectives.
  • Open to travel (approx 10 %).

Requirements:

  • An exceptional portfolio that demonstrates a methodical human-centered design process and successful product delivery from concept to production. Your work should also demonstrate solving design problems by connecting consumer insights, technology, socio-cultural, and market trends meaningfully.
  • Successfully worked with engineering and product teams to develop designs and bring products to market.
  • Extensive experience in CAD (including complex surface modeling and intricate assemblies) in at least one software.
  • Curiosity to experiment with new tools, combining different know-how to generate innovation at the intersections of various disciplines.
  • A good base knowledge of key manufacturing processes for polymers, ceramics, and metals.
  • A medium-level skill in prototyping ideas functionally.
  • Excellent storytelling and presentation skills with the ability to effectively communicate creative and technical ideas.
  • Exceptional 2D visualization skills, including sketching, storyboarding, and digital rendering.
  • A thorough understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and designing for DFM & DFAM.
  • Proficient in Italian and English languages.

Education & Experience:

  • Minimum Bachelor Degree or higher in Industrial Design.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in relevant Industrial Design roles.

Additional Information:

Workplace: up to 2 days per week, the percentage of onsite work will be defined by the Design Manager.
