As a Senior member of the team you’ll be heading up projects and working closely with Clients. We’ll welcome your input into the strategy for the business and support you in delivering this. You’ll be able to realistically quote and scope packages of work and inspire confidence in our Clients, your colleagues and our community with your great ideas.
You’ll find yourself working on all sorts of things, including cutting edge medical diagnostics, safety helmets, kitchen appliances, ATEX certified products – there really is no such thing as a typical week at OPD. What we can be sure of though is that you’ll get challenging problems to solve and be part of a skilled and friendly team who will support you along the way.
Our team of innovators are curious, experimental, creative and passionate. But our pragmatic, precise approach and highly technical expertise mean that manufacturability and risk management are at the core of everything we do. Each of our clients benefit from our shared passion and combined knowledge, and we bring together decades of experience across disciplines - from industrial design to mechanical engineering, electronics engineering, prototyping and manufacture.
The types of things you will be doing include:
• Producing innovative designs that meet the specification, delight the client, are reliable and cost effective to manufacture
• Maintaining quality, design processes, procedures and standards within the business and demonstrating a meticulous and methodical approach to project delivery
• Communicating with prospective and existing Clients and showing sound commercial judgement
• Accurately estimating work packages and ensuring that OPD represents excellent value for money to our Clients
• Maximising growth opportunities for OPD
• Leading project teams and mentoring junior members of staff
If you’re a talented designer with an inquiring and commercial mind that is excited by the challenge of working in a fast paced consultancy environment then you’ll fit right in. Working collaboratively and building strong relationships with colleagues and clients is key to our success, but it’s also important that you can work independently and autonomously as well.
Experience and perspective are what we expect from our Senior members of the team. At least seven years of varied experience, strong technical CAD skills, and a degree in a Design or Engineering related discipline. You’ll need to have a proven track record of delivering multiple projects on time and to budget, and be confident at managing client relationships. You'll also need to be eligible to work in the UK.
Making things better by making better things – as Designers that’s what makes us tick.
At Oxford Product Design we are professional problem solvers, working with both start-ups on ground-breaking new ideas, as well as some of the world’s leading brands on category-defining products that improve how we humans live and work.
Our design studio is based in a historic Cherry Barn in Harwell and has plenty of on-site parking. The studio is easily commutable by bus and train. We find our creative juices flow best when we’re in the studio together, but depending on what you are doing on any particular day, we also offer the flexibility to work from home.
We offer a competitive salary, pension and bonus scheme. You’ll get 25 days holiday (plus bank holidays) and paid leave on your birthday, wedding day, or if you’re buying a house or taking your child for their first day at school. You can purchase another 5 days of holiday a year, spread across 12 months, or sell back holiday at any point. After 3 years of working at OPD you can apply for an unpaid sabbatical of up to 3 months, increasing to 6 months after 6 years.
You’ll be allocated ten days of training per year, with a training budget of up to 5% of your annual salary. We’re a member of the cycle to work scheme which allows you to purchase a bike and related accessories tax free, we offer season ticket loans and have an Employee Assistance Programme for you and your family. And if you’re in the office on a Thursday, we’ll buy lunch for you!
