The Opportunity

Overview

Formation is a product design and development group focused on human-centered design and new product innovation. We develop innovative new products and experiences for clients in consumer, transportation, health-care and equipment markets.

We are seeking a talented Industrial Designer to join our development team in Atlanta GA. Formation is interested in a hands‐on Industrial Designer capable of identifying and transforming early-stage insights into world class product solutions.

Formation typically engages early in the design process and stays engaged until solutions and design intent are established. To support this approach, we are looking for someone who can contribute throughout the development process. Someone who can provide bridge thinking that relates application research to informed industrial design solutions and ultimately implemented products. Design thinking and design doing.

This position calls for a product person, an accomplished industrial designer capable of demonstrating proficiency throughout the design process, a strong visualizer capable of technical follow through. We are looking for people who demonstrate a strong personal commitment to creating truly innovative work.

• Need to submit an Industrial Design portfolio to be considered.

The Details

The ideal individual for this opportunity is a motivated, conscientious, collaborative designer interested in a solid career opportunity within an established and dynamic group of creative professionals. You should have experience with all aspects of the Industrial Design process, including: open-ended creative brainstorming + concept development, sketching and rapid idea visualization, generation of descriptive 2D visualizations, geometrically accurate 3D CAD Data and the creation of detailed physical mock‐ups.

We are interested in individuals comfortable with ambiguity and capable of big picture thinking characterized by a generalist approach.

Specific Qualifications + Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements and have the capabilities detailed below:

• At least 2 years of relevant industrial design and product development experience.

• The ability to conceptualize & develop concepts based on client’s business requirements and defined parameters.

• An intuitive sensitivity to form, detail and color and the ability to develop concepts.

• Rapid visualization – strong sketching skills are a big plus.

• Must be a team player ready to contribute in a collaborative design studio environment.

• Previous experience with and the ability use 3D Solids CAD software to develop geometrically and dimensionally accurate parametric models is essential.

• The ability to identify and act on trend, consumer, market and merchandise opportunities to create successful concepts.

• The ability to carry out generative research and analysis, form insights and articulate findings and directions directly to Formation’s clients.

• Establish key relationships with clients. Facilitate the early stages of client engagement including items such as; organizing brainstorms, or client facing work sessions. Travel up to 10% will be required.

• Conceptualize/develop concepts based on client’s business requirements and parameters.

• Execute design work in accordance with proposals, resource plans and client /project requirements. Maintain ownership and responsibility for the quality of Formation’s services, quality of design deliverables and the successful delivery of client work.

• The ability to use industrial design software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, In-Design, XD, & tools such as Painter, Rhino, Solid Works, Unity, Fusion 360°, NX, Figma, QT, Sketch, Proto IO etc. for creating, developing and detailing design concepts.

Although Formation has sponsored Visa applicants in the past and may continue to do so in the future, we are NOT doing so for this position and at this time.
