Safran Seats specializes in designing and producing aircraft seats of all classes which includes pilot and crew, economy and premium-economy, business and first class. Airlines all around the world are our direct customer but passengers are the end-users of our products.
Within our field, the Industrial designer is the champion of the passenger experience. Their mission is to deliver new and better aircraft seating solutions by working hand in hand with marketing, sales, engineering and program teams. The designer is at the very origin of any new product development and follows its development all the way to the production line, their role is to turn market insights into a product elevating the passenger experience while integrating technical constraints.
As part of the SGB Advanced Concept Team, designers report to The Lead Industrial Designer.
Tasks
New concept generation:
New concept generation with hand sketching, 2D or 3D software
Participate in internal and external innovation competitions
Generate innovative 2D drawings of cabin layout (LOPA)
Product line development:
Work hand in hand with product architects to create modular platform product lines (flexibility in X and Y axis, customization, airline branding…)
Be responsible of preserving the design intent and the passenger experience
Sales support:
Generate high-quality renderings of our products with Airline CMF
Support “co-creation” phases with airlines and/or design agencies
Present our products during tradeshows and/or at customer seat shows
Program support:
Bring continuous support to programs by being the link between the airlines’ marketing team and/or the design agency and our engineering department
Being the voice of the customer and championing the end-user experience
Communication:
Present and defend projects and seat concepts internally and externally (customers, suppliers, competitions, media…)
Having a feel for photography and understanding physical products photoshoots is a plus
Prototyping:
Work directly with prototype shops to build physical mockups of the seat concepts.
Generate 3D printed parts whenever it is necessary to validate the passenger interaction with small items.
Test and evaluate the full scale prototypes and to make the necessary adjustments on CAD
Experience
Education : Masters or degree in industrial design
Experience: 4+ years as industrial designer
Skills
Fluent in French
High proficiency in 3D modeling (Rhinoceros 6 preferred)
High proficiency in 3D rendering (Blender preferred)
Adobe Creative Suite proficiency (Photoshop/Illustrator)
Skilled user of MS Office software (PowerPoint)
Skilled at hand sketching
High communication skills
Proven understanding of the manufacturing processes
Basic understanding of mechanical design
Basic understanding of human factors
Feel for colors, materials and finishes
Interest and curiosity in aviation and the transportation industry
Job specifics
The position will focus primarily on premium market segment (Business and First class)
May require national and international travel
Driver license recommended
Position located in: Rue Robert Maréchal Senior, 36100 Issoudun, France.
Potential of 2 days of home office per week, after the initial probation period.
